Welcome To The 2nd Annual Chachi's Music & Video Awards!!!

You have waited all year and it is about that time. I want to thank everyone for coming and if you take your seats we can get started! If has been a great year in music and videos and today I will give the respect to those that mastered their craft. Today is the day when the most awesomest, the hawtest and the badassied…est videos shine. Ladies and gentlemen, I welcome you to the…

2nd Annual Chachi Music & Video Awards!!!

Alrighty, everyone. Let’s get started! We will begin with the Music portion of the show!

It was a HUGE year in music with records being set left and right! We all know that Yui dominated the nominations in the part of the show, lets she if she can cash in! We get started in a category in which she is nominated to boot!

Pop Album of the Year

Yui – Can’t Buy My Love
Avril Lavigne – Best Damn Thing
Kumi Koda – Black Cherry
M-Flo – Cosmicolor
Daughtry - Daughtry
Maroon 5- It Won’t Be Soon Long Before
Namie Amuro – Play
Bennie K – The World

Tha Winnah: Yui – Can’t Buy My Love!

Not really a shock here. With no Nelly Furtado or Justin Timberlake it was her category win. Although Kumi Koda didn’t get the props for “Black Cherry” like I think she should have. It was great stuff. Bennie K kind of let me down and Namie took WAY TOO LONG to come out but Yui’s album was one of three I have listened to straight through this year. The others were TI and the Hairspray soundtrack. I’m eclectic. Now we move on to our next category!

Rock Album of the Year

Paramore – Riot!
Abingdon Boys School – Abingdon Boys School
Linkin Park – Minutes To Midnight
L`Arc~en~Ciel - KISS
Maximum the Hormone – Maximum the Hormone
Foo Fighters - Echoes, Silence, Patience & Grace
Aqua Timez - Dareka no Chijou E
UVERworld – BUGRIGHT

Tha Winnah: Abingdon Boys School – Abingdon Boys School!

Kind of a shock, as I made this decision last due to Aqua Timez only coming out two weeks ago and Paramore’s album growing on me. Linkin Park’s album was surprisingly good while UVERworld was like Bennie K: kind of a letdown after following a BAD ASS album from 2006. ABS lived up to all the hype I put on them with their debut album as there wasn’t a bad song on there. We are moving on!

Rap/Hip Hop Album of the Year

UGK – Underground Kingz
nobodyknows+ - vulgarhythm
T.I. – T.I. vs. T.I.P.
Talib Kweli - Eardrum
Common – Finding Forever
KREVA - Yoroshiku Onegai Shimasu
Kanye West – Graduation

Tha Winnah: TI – TI vs. TIP!

This was a tough category, especially with Graduation being surprisingly good. KREVA really made a play for this one as I was totally shocked by the beats and his overall performance. Common and Talib didn’t have massive years and UGK was kind of disappointing with it either being awesome or bad on each song. In the end, TI overcame Kanye and a surprising nobodyknows+ to win this one. More to come?

R&B Album of the Year

Exile – Evolution
Alicia Keys – As I Am
Robin Thicke – Evolution of Robin Thicke (Re-release)
Ne-Yo – Because of You
Amy Winehouse – Back To Black
Musiq Soulchild – Luvanmusiq
Joss Stone – Introducing Joss Stone

Tha Winnah - Alicia Keys – As I Am!

Aside from EXILE (which had a BAD ASS ALBUM) this was Alicia’s award to lose. I have been listening to the album on my iPod for about a month now and I love it. Too bad I cant nominate it two years in a row because it would be up for the award again next year, too. Props to Musiq for quietly giving us another good album.

J-Pop Album of the Year

Namie Amuro – Play
Abingdon Boys School – Abingdon Boys School
Yui – Can’t Buy My Love
Bennie K – The World
Foxxi MisQ – Gloss
Aqua Timez - Dareka no Chijou E
KREVA - Yoroshiku Onegai Shimasu
HALCALI - Cyborg Oretachi

Tha Winnah: Abingdon Boys School – Abingdon Boys School!

Abingdon Boys School tops Yui, Namie AND Aqua Timez?! Talk about ballsy! I cant help it, the album is that rawk. Foxxi MisQ actually gave an album that isn’t getting much respect. Like a really poppy TLC minus the rapping of Left Eye. I have been looking for someone to fill that void and they fit. All that said, ABS has one of the besy albums of the year. Speaking of album of the year…

Album of the Year (Overall)

Common – Finding Forever
Alicia Keys- As I Am
Namie Amuro - Play
Abingdon Boys School – Abingdon Boys School
Yui – Cant Buy My Love
TI - T.I. vs. T.I.P.
Kanye West - Graduation
M-Flo – CosmiCOLOR

Tha Winnah: Kanye West – Graduation!

In a shocker! Kanye tops Alicia, Namie, BS, M-Flo (another underrated album from this year) Yui and Common for his first Album of the Year award! No tantrum this year! Graduation was surprisingly good, his best work so far. The skits were gone, the songs were pointed and the beats were simple if not basic. He let his lyrics shine here and it worked. All the albums here had their merit but Kanye took his work to the next level this year and it showed. Congratulations! We move to the Artist segment!

Pop Artist of the Year

Namie Amuro
Daughtry
Yuna Ito
Mihimaru GT
Yui
Bennie K
Nelly Furtado
Foxxi MisQ

Tha Winnah: Yui!

Not really a shock here. Nelly Furtado won last year but with a limited body of work she couldn’t repeat. Yui have the biggest year of any artist so this was barely in doubt. Mihimaru GT had a huge end of the year, Foxxi MisQ had a HUGE summer while Yuna Ito and Daughtry dominated the spring. But this year there hasn’t been a single week where Yui wasn’t on the Countdown. It looks to be that she will have at least one video on for 52 weeks which is just AWESOME. Now for the newbies.

New Artist of the Year

Abingdon Boys School
Gym Class Heroes
Hearts Grow
Daughtry
May J
Foxxi MisQ
Soulja Boy
NaNa

Tha Winnah: Abingdon Boys School!

This was actually very close between ABS, Daughtry and Foxxi MisQ. In the end, it was the albums that were the final factor. May J was quiet for a long stretch but deserved some recognition if for nothing but her hawtness. In the end, ABS may be the biggest group of the year, hands down. Big ups to NaNa! She came on strong to end the year! Next is the most resurgent category.

Rap/Hip Hop Artist of the Year

T.I.
Young Jeezy
Common
KREVA
Game
nobodyknows+
UGK
Kanye West

Tha Winnah: TI!

You know, this wasn’t really close despite Kanye’s body of work. TI had arguably the biggest song of the beginning of the year not by Nelly Furtado with “My Love” with J-Tim. He also has one of the biggest songs to END the year with “Hurt”. In between was a number one, a Top 10 video and the summer’s biggest album despite limited promotion. Young Jeezy had a good Spring, but couldn’t keep up the steam with that shitty ass “White Girl” song. Big up to Game, who had a string of three Top Three videos this year. With that said, it was TI vs. Kanye and TI won has won two out of three.

R&B Artist/Group of the Year

Chris Brown
Exile
Omarion
Musiq Soulchild
Alicia Keys
A.I.
Robin Thicke
John Legend

Tha Winnah: Alicia Keys & John Legend!

This was CLOSE! I mean it pretty much was John Legend from January to August and Alicia from September on. It would have been John alone winning the award (two number one videos, a number two video) but Alicia’s album forced a tie. “Once Again” came out last year so…you know. Big ups to EXILE, they had a good string of songs from February to about August that I jammed to. Grab your guitars, bitches!!

Rock Artist/Group of the Year

Maximum The Hormone
Linkin Park
UVERworld
Paramore
Abingdon Boys School
One Day Grace
Aqua Timez
Foo Fighters

Tha Winnah: Abingdon Boys School!

After last years win, UVERworld had to give up the crown to Abingdon Boys School! Paramore and Aqua Timez made late runs but in the end the awesomeness that is ABS ruled the day. One Day Grace tried to sneak in there and Linkin Park had a great year. Max the Hormone made me appreciate random yelling but in the end…TM rocked your face and you know it.

J-Pop Artist of the Year

Yui
M-Flo
Namie Amuro
Bennie K
Foxxi MisQ
Aqua Timez
Abingdon Boys School
Yuna Ito
Mihimaru GT

Tha Winnah: Yui!

Yui FINALLY tops Abingdon Boys School! Just kidding, but it did seem like ABS was handing her lunch to her. All the nominees had a legitimate claim to the award but in the end, five Top 20 videos and one of the hottest albums of the year is hard to beat. If there was a runner up, it would have to be Namie. Had Yui’s album came out about a month earlier she would be the one to beat because I LOVED all her singles and videos however, it is Yui’s year so far.

Artist of the Year (Overall)

Yui
Kanye West
T.I.
Nelly Furtado
John Legend
UGK
Namie Amuro
Abingdon Boys School

Tha Winnah: Yui!

Okay, it was pretty much between Yui, John Legend and TI. All had impressive resumes but in the end it was Yui that pulled it out! Let’s look at the award tallies so far!

Abingdon Boys School – 4
Yui – 3
TI – 2
Alicia Keys – 2
Kanye West – 1

Can ABS keep it up? We are into the Video Awards so things may change!

Music Video Awards

Best Collaborative Video

UGK feat Outkast – International Players Anthem
May J feat M-Flo – Here We Go
Kanye West feat. T-Pain – Good Life
Daddy Yankee feat Fergie - Impacto
T.I. feat Young Dro, Young Jeezy, Big Kuntry & B.G. – Top Back (Remix)
Kanye West feat Daft Punk – Stronger
Justin Timberlake feat T.I. – My Love
Sowelu, EXILE & DOBERMAN INC – 24 Karats

Tha Winnah: Justin Timberlake feat T.I. – My Love!

With two nods in this one category, it looked like he had a good shot but UGK looked like a LOCK. In the end…you have NO IDEA how much I love this video and this song. I was all over it (I did it at karaoke once….) late last year and even this year. This was a tough category but despite the competition J-Tim wins an award this year after being shut out last year!

Pop Video of the Year

Daughtry – It’s Not Over
Mihimaru GT – Gazen Yeah!
Avril Lavigne – Boyfriend
Yui – CHE.R.RY
Maroon 5 – Makes Me Wonder
Namie Amuro – Baby Don’t Cry
Nelly Furtado – Say It Right
Yui – Rolling Star
Bi – I’m Coming (Rain Is Coming)

Tha Winnah: Nelly Furtado – Say It Right!

The first shocker of the night! Despite Yui being nominated TWICE and the stiff competition of Mihimaru GT, Daughtry, Maroon 5 AND Namie Amuro the hawt Nelly Furtado pulls out the victory! Let’s not forget Bi, either! This video was in rotation non-stop at The Q and the beginning of this year as well. A mild upset, but an upset nonetheless. Now for the gimmie of 2007.

Rap/Hip Hop Video of the Year

T.I. feat Young Jeezy, Young Dro, Big Kuntry and B.G. – Top Back (Remix)
UGK feat. Outkast – International Players Anthem
Young Jeezy – I Luv It
Game feat. Kanye West – Wouldn’t Get Far
Nobodyknows+ - Heroes Come Back!!
Common – The People
Kanye West feat. Daft Punk – Stronger
Daddy Yankee feat. Fergie – Impacto

Tha Winnah: UGK feat Outkast – International Players Anthem!

No question. TI, nobodyknows and Kanye were impressive but this video was AWESOME. No one can top seven non-consecutive weeks at number one. This was the jam of the summer and you know it. The video was great, especially Andre 3000 in the kilt. “I’m Black Irish!” Priceless. Now for the category you have been waiting for.

Best Dance Video (Choreography)

Kumi Koda – Get Up & Move!
Justin Timberlake feat. T.I. – My Love
Yuna Ito – I’m Here
Namie Amuro – Hide & Seek
Chris Brown feat. T-Pain – Kiss Kiss
Bi – I’m Coming
Mihimaru GT – Gazen Yeah!
Hinoi Team – Dancin’ and Dreamin’
NaNa – Movin’ On

Tha Winnah: NaNa – Movin On & Bi – I’m Coming!

I couldn’t choose one! The hawtness of Bi or the hawtness of NaNa?! To pick one will create a vortex that will swallow the Earth whole! All these videos had great dancing but in the end, NaNa and Bi shone above the rest. Honorable mention to Namie Amuro. Namie with a whip may just be as hot and Bi upside down from a helicopter. MAY BE. Now for the fight of the year!

R&B Video of the Year

John Legend – P.D.A. (We Just Don’t Care)
Chris Brown – Wall To Wall
Alicia Keys – No One
NaNa – Movin On
Sowelu, EXILE, DOBERMAN INC – 24 Karat
Justin Timberlake feat. T.I. – My Love
Bi – I’m Coming
EXILE – Lovers Again
Omarion – Ice Box

Tha Winnah: Alicia Keys – No One!

So they tied for the Best R&B Artist Award but Alicia takes the best video award! BARELY! I was all about PDA this Spring (when I was kind of smitten) but that didn’t end up so well. Alicia wins this round. But they WILL MATCH UP AGAIN! Next up we have the Breakthrough Award.

Breakthrough Video of the Year

Halcali – Look
Gackt - RETURNER ~Yami no Shuuen~
Mario – How Can I Breathe
L`Arc~en~Ciel – SEVENTH HEAVEN
Bi – I’m Coming
UVERworld - Endscape
Yui – Rolling Star
RBD (Rebelde) – Ser O Parecer

Tha Winnah: L`Arc~en~Ciel – SEVENTH HEAVEN!

Hells yeah! The Arc wins! It was between Hyde & Co and Gackt and they eeked out a win in this category. I loved this video and it was a great return for these guys. Grab your guitars again, people!

Rock Video of the Year

UVERworld – Zero No Kotae
L`Arc~en~Ciel – SEVENTH HEAVEN
Daughtry – It’s Not Over
Aqua Timez – Alones
Paramore – Misery Business
Evanescence – Lithium
Abingdon Boys School - Howling
Maximum the Hormone – What’s Up, People?!

Tha Winnah: Aqua Timez – Alones!

You know what? This wasn’t even close. Despite ABS being nominated and the Evanescence vs. Paramore dynamic, the anticipation I had for this video was unparalleled. I could NOT WAIT for this video and single and when it came I was blown away. It was a simple video but it all fit together, especially the ending when they are performing in front of fans rather than being alone in the warehouse. See, sometimes rock can be Shakespeare. We move on!

Sad Video of the Year

Alicia Keys – Never See Me Again
EXILE – Lovers Again
Mario – How Do I Breathe
Dragon Ash – Yume De Aetara
Seamo – Cry Baby
Yui – Understand
Aqua Timez - Sen No Yoru Wo Koete
Angela Aki – Kiss Me Goodbye

Tha Winnah: EXILE – Lovers Again!

SHOCKER! Those that know me know that I was all about this song earlier this year. Back when I was having my own personal pity party and all. Even still, this video was simple in it pain and I was all about it. Hell, I even know some of the words. If I could do this in karaoke….I would totally rule. We are moving onto the major awards!

J-Pop Video of the Year

Sowelu, EXILE, DOBERMAN INC – 24 Karat
Yui – Rolling Star
Aqua Timez - Alones
Namie Amuro – Baby Don’t Cry
Yuna Ito – I’m Here
Mihimaru GT – Gazen Yeah!
Abingdon Boys School - Howling
L’Arc~en~Ciel – SEVENTH HEAVEN
Nobodyknows+ - Heroes Come Back!!

Tha Winnah: Namie Amuro – Baby Don’t Cry!

Another upset of Yui! How does Namie Amuro top Yui, nobodyknows and Aqua Timez? Simple: three weeks. That is how long it took this video to make it to number one. This video helped me through some pitiful ass times and you know what? It is just a very good video. Namie is hawt, the song is awesome and the video is simple. That’s why she wins. Speaking of love, which I am incapable of.

Romantic/Love Video of the Year

Alicia Keys – Never See Me Again
Namie Amuro – Baby Don’t Cry
May J. – Dear…
Robin Thicke – Can You Believe
John Legend – PDA (We just Don’t Care)
Mihimaru GT - Kakegae no nai Uta
J. Holiday – Bed
Elliott Yamin – Wait For You

Tha Winnah: John Legend – PDA (We Just Don’t Care)!

John Legend takes one from Alicia! Although I LOVED “Kakegae no nai Uta” by Mihimaru GT, “PDA” once again symbolized a great time for me. It ended rather “meh” hence my love for UGK. This video is great and fits the song perfectly. It was actually a three horse race between John, Alicia and Mihimaru and John took the award. Next…ugh.

Worst Video of the Year

50 Cent – I Get Money
Zeebra – Stop Playin’ A Wall
USDA – White Girl
Kumi Koda - But
Green Day & U2 – The Saints Are Coming
Leah Dizon – L.O.V.E. U
Beyonce – Upgrade U
Chris Brown – Wall To Wall

50 Cent – I Get Money!!!

Monkey faced, Black bastard. That is all. Although Bono deserved it much more, his douchery is pretty much a given. 50 needs this. Special hate to Beyonce’s trifling ass. Your songs are worthless and you really aren’t that hot. Alicia outhawts you in a muumuu. Now for the most awesome award ever!

Best Video From An Anime

Aqua Timez – Alones (Bleach)
HOME MADE KAZOKU - Nagareboshi ~Shooting Star~ (Naruto: Shippuuden)
Abingdon Boys School – Howling (Darker Than Black)
Nami Tamaki – Brightdown (D-Gray Man)
Nobodyknows+ - Hero’s Come Back! (Naruto: Shippuuden)
Yui – Rolling Star (Bleach)
Hearts Grow – Himawari (Powerpuff Girls Z)
Back-On – Blaze Line (Eyeshield 21)
Takahashi Hitomi – Jet Boy, Jet Girl (Toward The Terra)

Tha Winnah: Nobodyknows+ - Hero’s Come Back!

HELLS YEAH! Naruto over Bleach! Wait…what? Okay, this Spring and Summer I was ALL ABOUT THIS VIDEO! Aside from TI, no video got me more hyped up that this one! Back-On made a run and of course Aqua Timez and Yui got consideration but in the end it was all about the come back! 3-2-1 MAKE SOME NOISE!!! Now for a new category!

Best Video From A Motion Picture

Anthony Hamilton – Do You Feel Me? (American Gangster)
Yuna Ito – I’m Here (Unfair: The Movie)
Snow Patrol – Signal Fire (Spiderman 3)
Master Shake – Nude Love (ATHFCMFFT)
DJ OZMA – Lie, Lie, Lie (Naruto: Shippuuden the Movie)
Zac Efron – Ladies Choice (Hairspray)
Aqua Timez - Sen No Yoru Wo Koete (Bleach: The Movie)
Goo Goo Dolls – Before It’s Too Late (Transformers)
Yui – Understand (Sidecar ni Inu)

Tha Winnah: Yuna Ito – I’m Here (Unfair: The Movie)

NUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUDE LOVE! Came so close, but so far. Yuni Ito by far had the best video from a movie this year not called “Hairspray”. That movie was a musical so that is kind of unfair. Speaking of Unfair, it wasn’t that bad of a movie. Oh, and did I mention that Yuna Ito is HAWT? Because she is. Hoawt, can sing and can dance? I love her so. We are down to the REAL BIG awards!

Group Video of the Year

Mihimaru GT – Gazen Yeah!
Maroon 5 – Makes Me Wonder
Aqua Timez – Alones
Nobodyknows+ - Hero’s Come Back
UGK feat. Outkast – International Players Anthem
Hearts Grow - Himawari
Abingdon Boys School – Howling
L`Arc~en~Ciel – SEVENTH HEAVEN

Tha Winnah: UGK feat Outkast – International Players Anthem!!

Despite the stiff competition , this one once again wasn’t even close. UGK dominated the summer and even though the other videos had impressive resumes….seven weeks. The best verse of the year (yes, better than Lil’ Wayne’s work) and the greatest cake wrestling match ever. Can anyone beat that? I think not. Now…the hawtest category in the history of the world!

Female Video of the Year

Yui – Rolling Star
Nelly Furtado – Say It Right
Yuna Ito – I’m Here
May J. – Here We Go
Alicia Keys – No One
Namie Amuro – Baby Don’t Cry
Yui – CHERRY
NaNa – Movin On

Tha Winnah: Nelly Furtado – Say It Right!!

YES! YES! OH MY GOD YES! There are no losers here. Every lady nominated had a great year and is so….so beautiful. In the end, when you capture the timeframe of each video and when it dominated, Nelly Furtado wins hands down. Second here would actually have to be Alicia Keys but in the end…”Say It Right” was one of my three favorite videos of the year and may be my favorite song hands down.

Male Video of the Year

Kanye West feat Daft Punk – Stronger
Daughtry – It’s Not Over
Bi – I’m Coming
TI feat Young Jeezy, Young Dro, Big Kuntry & BG – Top Back (Remix)
Justin Timberlake feat TI – My Love
Game feat Kanye West – Wouldn’t Get Far
Kanye West feat T-Pain – Good Life
John Legend – PDA (We Just Don’t Care)

Tha Winnah: John Legend – PDA (We Just Don’t Care)!

Kanye had three nominations here. TI had two nominations here. And in the end, the one that wins is the man with the fewest nominations of all the superstars! This video was the video of the Spring, when love had sprung. TI made a strong play and even forced a tie for a while! But in the end I had to do the same I did with the female category. John’s timeframe was more awesome than TI’s. We are down to one!

Video of the Year

Namie Amuro – Baby Don’t Cry
UGK feat Outkast – International Players Anthem
Yui – Rolling Star
Alicia Keys – No One
John Legend – P.D.A. (We Just Don’t Care)
Aqua Timez – Alones
TI feat Young Jeezy, Young Dro, Big Kuntry & BG – Top Back (Remix)
Nobodyknows+ - Hero’s Come Back!!
Maroon 5 – Makes Me Wonder
Nelly Furtado – Say It Right

Tha Winnah: UGK feat Outkast – International Players Anthem!!

All these videos were number one for at least three weeks. All these videos were on the Countdown for at least 12 weeks. All of these videos deserve but in the end only ONE was the champ. The King. The UNDERGROUND KINGS! UGK’s “International Players Anthem” may be one of the best videos ever made and I only toss that around about Bi because it is true. This video was everywhere and rightfully so. Seven weeks at the top and the Video of the Year Award? Pretty good year for UGK and Outkast! Congratulations!

Well, now that the Music Video Awards are over, let’s add up the awards!

UGK & Outkast – 3
John Legend – 2
Nelly Furtado – 2

Yui and Abingdon Boys School get shut out of the Video Awards?! Well, lets take a look at the total numbers!

Abingdon Boys School – 4 (11 nominations)
Alicia Keys – 4 (8 nominations)
John Legend – 3 (6 nominations)
UGK & Outkast – 3 (4 nominations)
Yui – 3 (15 nominations)
TI – 3 (12 nominations)
Nelly Furtado – 2 (3 nominations)
Namie Amuro – 2 (12 nominations)

So Abingdon Boys School and Alicia Keys had the most wins of 2007! Kanye West only won ONE AWARD out of his ELEVEN nominations but he finally won the big one: he has your Album of the Year! UGK went three-for-four while John Legend once again proved that he is the King of the Countdown…although TI may have something to say about that as he tied him this year after losing to him twice last year. It is official: Alicia Keys is the Queen of the Countdown and did more with less nominations than ABS. Yui got goose-egged in the Music Video Awards but still pulled out three wins including Artist of the Year which is well deserved. Congratulations to all the winners!

Well, the Chachi Music and Video Awards has passed for 2007 and I want to thank you for coming! Stay tuned for the Chachi Movie Awards nominees and Douchebrawl 2008 is coming! Until then, stay up peeps!

Chachi Out!
